The Organization

The SEIU Healthcare 1199NW Multi-Employer Training Fund (Training Fund) is a nonprofit, labor/management partnership between eight (8) major healthcare employers and the largest healthcare union in Washington State. The Training Fund was formed in 2008 and is a statewide program that is committed to and addresses the workforce needs of participating employers and supports the career, knowledge, and skill aspirations of SEIU Healthcare 1199NW members. The Training Fund is the sponsor of the state-registered Health Care Apprenticeship Consortium (HCAC) and the Virtual Healthcare Institute (VHI).

With over 16,500 members, roughly half of the Training Fund’s current participants are people of color. The Training Fund's membership represents the diversity of the communities served and is poised to make a significant impact on the health and well-being of these communities. The organization is governed by a 16-member board with eight (8) representing the union and eight (8) representing the employers. There are approximately thirty (30) full-time staff, and the Training Fund has an annual budget of approximately $7.0m.

The Position

The Director of Communications and Community Relations (Director) is responsible for planning, leading, and directing all communications, marketing, outreach, and community relations to support the strategic services and plan of the SEIU Healthcare 1199NW Multi-Employer Training and Education Fund (Training Fund). This position reports to and is a trusted partner to the ED.  They lead the communications and community relations efforts and manage the day-to-day tasks. The Director of Communications is part of the Training Fund leadership team and works closely with the Deputy Director.

The Director plays a crucial role in facilitating a strong labor/management partnership. They plan, implement, and oversee the overall marketing, communications, and outreach strategy for the Training Fund's services and unify and align communications across all channels. The Director builds an outreach and communication strategy to connect with diverse membership and stakeholders. In addition, they will identify and implement changes that enhance program effectiveness and resolve complex issues or problems in the labor/management context.

The Director supervises the Communications and Outreach Coordinator and several contractors that provide specific services such as website maintenance and graphic design and an intern and/or additional staff as assigned.

Total Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $80,000 - $100,000. The Training Fund offers a competitive benefits packages that includes employer-paid medical, dental, life and long-term disability insurance, a retirement plan, as well as paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.
